A patient smiles at her health care provider who is accessing the electronic medical record.

"It was the data available to us through our very sophisticated electronic medical record and the ability to use that information at the point of care delivery that helped us become successful to date in achieving the goals of this project."

Karl Ulrich, M.D., M.M.M., president and chief executive officer, Marshfield Clinic

Cattails Software Suite, version 5.9

Marshfield Clinic Information Systems was among the first to develop a working electronic medical record. The current version, Marshfield Clinic’s Cattails Software Suite, version 5.9, was certified as a Complete EHR on October 10, 2011 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), a government approved testing institution*.

Rigorous criteria has been met by Cattails software that supports the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

As medical care has become increasingly complex, the goal of the meaningful use initiatives is to further encourage providers across the country to adopt health information technology (HIT) that supports and is used in a meaningful way to improve clinical decisions and patient care outcomes.

Cattails Software Suite is a dynamic electronic toolset that helps to improve quality of care, patient safety and practice efficiency in a large-scale health care network that includes clinics, hospitals, research facilities, pharmacies, a regional referral laboratory and a health maintenance organization.

  • CCHIT certified with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services
  • Medicare beneficiaries who received the majority of their care in the Marshfield Clinic system experienced improved quality of care and an actual increase in services at a lower cost to Medicare.
  • Weston Medical center estimates savings of about $1.3 million per year and physician productivity increases of about 5 to 10 percent per doctor.
  • Marshfield Clinic showed improvement in the quality outcomes measured in years one and two for diabetes care.

Cattails Software interviewed hundreds of physicians and other health care professionals to identify their requirements. We built our applications based on what they told us would help them take better care of their patients, make their practices more efficient and make their lives easier. In addition, as part of the Marshfield Clinic, we get continual and immediate feedback as to the quality and usability of the software we produce. Any product or service that does not "Improve the practice of medicine", does not become part of CattailsMD. The Cattails software suite of applications delivers the clinical tools that providers want, and the business tools executives and managers need.
